Beer and Brainstorming
Last week, my research group had our post-meeting at Towers on Fourth Pub. Let me just say – best idea ever! First, we took care of our actual agenda items, and then, we celebrated with drinks to follow. A pitcher of beer and several caesars later, everyone was letting loose. We talked about practicums, work loads, life outside of school – basically all of the things we needed to get off our chests.
More often than not, students forget the importance of having fun. They spend so much time studying that they lose a healthy sense of balance. It isn’t always about the top grades, the best practicums or the most impressive papers – it’s about enjoying the experience. And if that includes some alcoholic beverages and a gab fest, then so be it. For this Easter long weekend, I encourage all of you business students to put your books down for a minute and enjoy your free time!
I agree – I was pleasantly surprised by how productive we were before getting down to the drinking and gossiping!
I also agree! A drink is motivation enough to keep to the agenda items. Also, this is a great opportunity to just chat with your group members about anything but your assignment. Sometimes a break from school is exactly what you need to find the motivation to get that assignment done.
I would go as far as to say have the whole meeting there! A setting like Towers creates an environment enabling everyone to speak their mind no matter if they drink or not. My suggestion would be have a drink while you chat then get to work. Loosening up in the relaxed setting will do wonders for creative thinking as long as everyone is on board.
