Jazz things up

Grant MacEwan University and the University of Alberta teams up to provide jazz lovers a night of delight. The Big Band is set to hold its season-ending performance.

Traditionally, original compositions written by MacEwan students and faculty are featured in the concert.

This year, the concert will include original works by Allan Gilliland, MacEwan’s head of composition and Thomas Hay, a MacEwan music student.

The concert will be on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. It will take place in the John L. Haar Theatre at MacEwan’s Centre for the Arts and Communication.

This Big Band has been together for nearly 20 years. The Band is made up of talented musicians that play saxophones, trombones, trumpets and a rhythm section.

Big Bands originally became popular in the 1930s during the Swing Era. These musical ensembles put jazz music on the map

The concert will be on Monday, April 12, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. It will take place in the John L. Haar Theatre at MacEwan’s Centre for Arts and Communication.
